Our Mission

“To make disciples around the block and around the world.”

Jesus gave the church her mission statement before returning to heaven. He told us in Matthew 28:19-20 that we are to make disciples of all nations. At Westway we have the nations at our doorstep. We are situated in one of the most diverse cities in the world and we believe God has placed us here to reach our neighbors and the nations they represent.

What is a disciple and how do you make them?

Disciples are those who have chosen to follow Jesus as Lord and Saviour. In the Bible, disciples begin their journey in baptism, proclaiming their faith in the redeeming work of Jesus on the cross. A disciple understands that they are a new creation in Christ.
As a part of this new identity, disciples begin to focus their lives on three eternal priorities: Faith, Hope and Love (1Corinthians 13:13).

  • Faith in The Living God

Faith is demonstrated in daily worship, prayer and scripture reading. We encourage disciples to attend weekly worship gatherings, pray for those who ask for it each week and study through God's Word daily. Every disciple must have a relationship with Christ in whom they put their faith.

  • Hope for The Hurting World

The good news of the Bible is the hope of the world. Disciples are compelled by love to share the gospel with the world (2Corinthians 5:11-21). We express the hope of the gospel by sharing the "good news" of God's love, meeting the practical needs of others and welcoming everyone into our church family.

  • Love for One Another

The Bible says love is the distinguishing mark of true disciples (John 13:35). We express our love for one another by serving each others needs in ministry, sharing life in small groups and supporting servant leaders.
